I hope everybody enjoyed the long weekend. As I mentioned last week, we will be working on our essays that compare China with India. I will review how to construct the essay, and what a thesis-driven essay is. We will be working on the essay all week. Here is an overview of the project:
Essay Assignment
· Write a five-paragraph essay that compares Ancient China and Ancient India.
· The sources you should use are the textbook, video study guides and the timelines of each civilization.
· This will be a “thesis-driven essay.” Your thesis is: The ancient civilizations of China and India had many similarities, but they also had differences.
Your essay should be structured as follows:
First paragraph: Introduction.
Introduce your topic
Have your thesis statement
Explain what you will prove in your essay by giving an overview of the evidence
Second paragraph: Physical geography
Describe the similarities and differences between Ancient China’s and Ancient India’s physical geography.
Third paragraph: Culture & economy
Describe the similarities and differences between the economy and culture of Ancient India and Ancient China.
Fourth paragraph: History/governments/leaders
Describe the similarities and differences in the history/governments/leaders of Ancient India and Ancient China.
Fifth paragraph: Conclusion
Write a conclusion that states why you have proven your thesis, as you do, explain the evidence that you have presented.
Each paragraph should be around 5-7 sentences.
