This week the plan is to continue looking at Ancient South Asia and move up to the 20th century when we examine the impact of Gandhi. Mohandas Gandhi is not only an important figure in the history of South Asia, he is also well-known for inspiring non-violent movements for civil rights and justice across the world. As a result, he serves as a counterpoint to someone like Mao Zedong, who famously, or perhaps infamously, said: "power grows form the barrel of a gun." Without a doubt, Gandhi is one of the most important actors of the 20th century and his leadership needs to be understood if one is to make sense of the world today.
